Crafts: A Pinspired Christmas

Happy Saturday! Hope you're enjoying the weekend. I don't know about you, but I love Christmastime! It's my most favorite time of the year. From the holiday movies and twinkling lights, to the crisp winter air and handmade Christmas decorations! Everything about this season brings me great joy, and being able to experience all of this with my loved ones is truly a blessing.

When it comes to adding a holiday touch to our home, I try to include as many handmade DIY projects as possible. Don't get me wrong, I love buying store-bought stuff! Our home has them too. But nothing beats a handmade creation for your family to enjoy for years to come....

With the internet at our fingertips, it's never hard to find ideas and inspiration for ways to personalize your holiday home. And today I'm giving you glimpse into our home to see some of the fun projects I've made to decorate it... each one inspired by Pinterest!

ACTIVITY ADVENT CALENDAR

Pinspired Christmas: Activity Advent Calendar

This is a handmade activity advent calendar that I created for my 4-year-old daughter. You can find my DIY here. It's our second year doing it, and although the calendar stays the same, the activities and the cards you write them on can be changed and customized year after year.

WORD ART

Pinspired Christmas: Christmas Subway Art

A simple and inexpensive way to decorate your home is by switching out some of your photos with fun Christmas art prints. There are so many different designs and styles available [free] on the internet, that you can change them out each year. Here is the Christmas Rules subway art print I used. Mine is displayed in a large black 8x10 frame.

This is one of my favorite handmade Christmas projects! Besides it being super simple to create, I loved using supplies from my stash to customize it to fit our holiday theme. I'll be sharing my DIY next week, so stay tuned to see how I made it!

SANTA'S KEY

Pinspired Christmas: Santa's Key

I think this is the most special handmade Christmas decoration. When I saw it on Pinterest last year, I knew I had to recreate it for our family. It only took a few supplies to make, but the message speaks plenty. I love it!

The hardest thing about this project was finding "the key". I snagged this big glittery gold key ornament from Target. Isn't it perfect? Next, I cut a large tag from Kraft cardstock and printed up a card with the following text:

"Dear Santa,

This magic key works just for you,

Please open the door and come on through.

Thank you for coming to our house tonight.

We are celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

Thank you Santa for the gifts you bring,

Thank you Lord for everything."

I added the card to the Kraft tag, and tied on some pretty ribbon to complete it. This piece hangs on the doorknob of our front door for everyone to see.

This is another freebie that I displayed in one of our silver frames. You can download the "Believe" print here. There are so many beautiful designs online that it's so hard to choose just a few! But I have to say, it really is a simple and frugal way to decorate. With the endless Christmas prints on Pinterest, you can easily change up your displays year after year!

Printables: December

Happy Holidays! It's about that time again.... for my monthly printables post! Last month was just a bit crazy and I didn't get the chance to write my November post, so I decided to combine it with December. In case you missed October's batch, you can find it here.

I first discovered free printables a year and a half ago when I was looking for fun stuff to add to my SMASH* book spreads. Over time I've incorporated them into all of my books because they are incredibly versatile! You will also see them in my Project Life album, handmade Daybooks, and even my Filofax planners.

Early 2013, I decided to share the knowledge I've learned from my printables adventures. So if you've never tried at-home printing or it's something you're curious about, I strongly urge you to read this post. You'll find lots of helpful hints and tips to get you started, including ways to save time and money doing it...

Every month I scour the internet for new free printables to add to my collection. November I was in search of Autumn and Thanksgiving themed journal and filler cards. This month I was looking for Christmas themed items for my December Daily album. Since I only do my printing once a month to save money, I also try to look for things that can be used in all of my books!

My printer was running low on colored ink when I printed out this batch of Autumn cards, so the colors on them are more pink than orange and brown as they should be. [I actually don't mind it one bit because pink is my favorite my color!] The elements from Simple as That got printed on Kraft cardstock for a totally different look. I love typography and like to use them as filler cards! They're perfect for filling up those extra pockets in Project Life or December Daily. A few of these, like the cards by Becky Higgins, the Dec. calendar card, and the YUM card were made for Project Life, and sized 3" x 4". The others were originally larger art prints that I resized to fit in the pockets of my December Daily album. 

With the Becky Higgins cards, I'm only showing the ones I printed to use in my album, but there are more designs that come in the set. The December calendar card comes in 4 colors, so choose one that works with your theme. And the Merry Everything card also has more designs, pick your favorite!

Every month when I search for free printables I try to include a batch of cool elements. Since I print once a month, I need my stuff to go the extra mile. These are definitely the most versatile pieces! I love using elements like this in my Filofax, and as embellishments on the cards and pages of my Project Life album and SMASH* books. I was extremely happy to find a set of numbers to use in my December Daily album, but my favorite are the fun tags by Heidi Swapp! Aren't they lovely?

Happy Monday! With October coming close to an end, I thought it's about that time again for my monthly Printables post! In case you missed September's batch, you can find it here. Each month I like to feature a new favorite designer. I recently came across Vintage Glam Studio... and fell in love. The style of VGS is sweet and whimsical. Shown here are just a few of the designs, but there are still about a dozen more left to print! Each of these sets come with 4 fun journal cards and a various mix of elements. From banners and washi tape to flair, flags, and labels. The cards are great for PL, and the little elements would be perfect for planners or SMASHing. I know how I'll be using mine! I highly recommend browsing Vintage Glam's blog. There are so many wonderful things to be discovered!

Hello :) It's about that time again for my favorite monthly post... Printables! And I have a great batch to share with you today! In case you missed last month's post, you can find it here. Or feel free to check out all of my "Printables" posts! There are plenty of fabulous things to be found...

If you are familiar with my blog, you know I'm obsessed with printables. I use them in all of my books. From my SMASH* & Daybooks to Project Life and my Filofax! I take full advantage of all the wonderful freebies floating around on the internet! If you aren't familiar with printables, or it's something that you have been meaning to look into, I strongly urge you to read this post. You'll find helpful hints and tips for at-home printing as well as simple ways to save money doing it!

Each month I'm on the lookout for specific cards and printables to add to my collection. It was all about Filofax freebies last month, but today I'll be sharing some awesome finds that can be used in all of your books!

I was running low on ink, but at the same time I needed more filler and journal cards to restock both sizes in my stash. So this month I decided to scour the internet for some cool black & white cards and printables. Not only did I find some fabulous stuff, but I was also able to save colored ink by printing those files as "Black Ink Only." But since I am a colorful person, I had to add pops of color in there too! I did that with some fun elements and word art. Now onto the goodies...

I specifically chose these cards to use in my Project Life album. There was such a great mix of journalers and fillers! I didn't print any, but the Just Izzy cards also has some 4x6 designs in this set available for free download. I really love the Chalkboard cards though, and decided to print out both sizes available. I also printed out some of the sets on Kraft cardstock for a totally different look. The black ink really pops! Have you tried a using a white gel pen on Kraft paper? It's one of my favorite techniques and looks amazing! If you are really dying for some color, you can easily add it using colorful ink and pens to journal with, or even through embellishments.

Miss Tiina was the designer that started my free printables obsession over a year ago. I'm a huge fan of her designs and own and use all of her freebies! My favorite stuff is definitely her "collections." She has a few different ones, each consisting of various styles of cards in both 4x6 and 3x4 sizes. This particular black and white collection has 90 individual cards with simple designs and styles. There are cards with grid backgrounds, quotes, lists, writing prompts, word art, lined journalers, and fun fillers. Then she added even more cards like the Good Life and Any Day journal cards that complement the collection. I went ahead and printed one of those sets on Kraft cardstock too!

I added some color to this month's B&W batch with these awesome cards! I've always had a passion for signage, word art posters, quotes, and typography... even as a kid. It's something that I'm happy to carry into my crafting! I love using these types of cards in my books. You can find the smaller cards in my SMASH* books and Project Life album... even in my personal Filofax for inspiration. The larger 4x6 cards are perfect for PL, and I'm even using a couple to decorate the dividers in my new A5 Original Filofax. I hope you enjoy the ones I chose to feature this month...

I saved my favorite finds of the month for last. Don't you absolutely love these little embellishments?! Because I sure do! The artwork on the pen pal stamps is absolutely adorable. Each one has a different design for a specific country. I'm going to have so much fun with these when I write my next batch of letters :) I think the recipient will enjoy it too! 

And you wouldn't believe how happy I was to find these fabulous flair! I may have been running low on colored-ink, but printing out these little babies didn't take much at all. After each sheet was done, I used my super handy 1" circle punch by EK Success to punch out each piece. I ended up with a ginormous stack of flair! I like to use them as-is to decorate my Filofax, SMASH* book, and Project Life cards, since it doesn't add too much bulk. But you could easily turn these into real flair buttons, or just add some 1" clear epoxy circle stickers for dimension. Have fun with 'em!

Printables: August

Hello everyone! It's about that time again. I decided to do something different this month with my Printables post. Every month it has been about the awesome free printables for SMASH* and Project Life. But August is all about Filofax! If you missed last month's Printables post, you can find it here. Curious about at-home printing or looking for tips on producing great printables, and ideas on how to save money doing it? I urge you to read this post. It'll help make the Printables "process" fun, simple, and budget-friendly.

Over the course of a year, I have found hundreds of cards for my Smash* and Project Life collection. Now I need to start building my stash of free printables for my lovely Filofax. The process I used for printing these is a little different than what I would normally do for my PL and Smash* cards. Instead, I used the "normal" printer setting and ran them on regular printer paper rather than the cardstock I designate for printables. Cardstock is just way too thick. I prefer to limit the bulkiness in my planner. Quality-wise, they resemble the stationery paper or memo pads and task lists you would purchase from a store.

This month I scoured the internet for super cute printables I could use in my Domino. Chore charts, task and to-do lists, meal planners, grocery and shopping lists, even a few Filo cards (like the kind I use in my SMASH* book and Project Life album). And after teasing you in yesterday's Filo post with a mention of these babies, I'm excited to finally share them with you...

I carried my love for SMASHing into my Filofax Domino, using these types of cards all throughout it. On my dividers, between the pages of my calendars, anywhere and everywhere. Seeing the different typography each with its own message inspires me. Discovering these Filofax themed cards made them the perfect addition to my collection.  I printed these up like I normally do [using the "Specialty Paper, Best Quality" printer setting] on crisp white cardstock. They are much different than memo sheets or task lists which get written on, thrown away, or archived. They act more as an art piece in my book. So I wanted them to look their best, just like my SMASH* and Project Life printables.

Happy Aloha Friday!

I hope you all had a wonderful week! It is that time again for my new batch of free printables for the month. In case you missed last month's post, you can find it here. If you are new to my blog, or at-home printing, or haven't even considered it, I urge you to read this post. It's full of helpful hints and tips, ways to make the printables process cheap and easy, and other ideas and information to help you start your own collection of free cards for Project Life and Smash*. I've learned over the last year that printing at-home can get quite expensive and tedious if done on a daily basis. For me, I have a routine when it comes to printables. I limit myself to only one big batch each month. If you don't set limits, you'll find yourself spending way too much money on ink and paper. It can also get pretty exhausting to print and cut file after file, day after day, whenever you find something new online. Doing it once a month works for me and my budget. I really need those ink cartridges to go a long way... not just for my printables, but also ones for swapping, weekly Project Life photos, and regular household printing. I've learned how to make those ink cartridges and white cardstock last for an unbelievably long time!

Each month I have my eyes out for specific cards that I want to add to my collection. I've been on the lookout for more colorful and fun filler and journal cards that are all about Summer. There are so many of them floating around the internet, and here are a few more that I just had to have....

Happy Monday Everyone! I hope you had a wonderful weekend. Today, I'm happy to finally share my recent batch of free printables for the month. If you missed last month's post, you can find it here. Are you new to at-home printing? Be sure to check out this post full of helpful hints and tips, as well other ideas and information, to help you get started with printing your own cards for SMASH* and Project Life.

I like to print a big batch of cutouts and cards to add to my stash on a monthly basis. I do it this way to save money and make it easier on myself. You wouldn't believe how expensive at-home printing can be if you don't set limits. It can also get pretty tedious and exhausting to print and cut each and every day you find something new online. Doing them once a month works for me and my budget. I need those ink cartridges to go the extra mile... not just for my own printables, but also printables for swapping, everyday Project Life and instagram photos, and regular household printing each month. I'm proud to say with this process, I can make an ink cartridge and white cardstock last for months!

Every month I look for specific types of cards to add to my collection. This month, I kept an eye out for fun and colorful journal and filler cards that represent everything I love about summer. There were so many to choose from! Here in this post I'll be sharing a few of my favorite finds....

I love the set from Simple Stories! They include both 6x4 and 3x4 journal cards with cute and colorful designs that totally work for documenting the summer season. And the adorable set by Kimberly Kalil couldn't be more perfect either. They have summer written all over them! She releases a set of new cards every month, and I'm so in love with this one. I can't wait for the rest of her cards coming this season!

I'm not really a girly girl, but my 4 year-old definitely is. What I do love most about this group of cards are the beautiful colors and designs. The pretty pastels and other gorgeous shades work great for summer as well. I chose to print the first set of cards [Soft Triangles] on both white and Kraft cardstock for two totally different looks. The "Besties" set is so stinkin' cute! I can't wait to use them this summer to document the fun times my daughter has with her friends. I'm in love with the stunning colors and sweet designs on the "Free Spirit" cards. But I have to say, my favorite from this group are the "Shopaholic" cards. I'll be using those for sure!
